Our History

Our History

ECM was founded in 2002 by David Wagner, formerly the Vice President and Chief Investment Officer at Northwestern University. David was joined by three additional founders – Adam Blitz, Ken Meister, and Ryan Cahill – who provided complementary skill sets from both an investing and operational perspective. We have grown our team to 27 total employees and have named four additional Principals of ECM. We believe all of our team members have added depth and breadth to ECM’s investment processes and operations. In 2010 we successfully restructured the firm’s ownership by partnering with TA Associates, Inc. (“TA”). Private funds sponsored by TA made a significant minority investment in ECM to help facilitate a multi-generational ownership structure, expand equity participation, and formalize ECM’s corporate governance.

As of April 1, 2020, we have approximately $3.0 billion in assets under management and over 175 institutional investor relationships. ECM investors are primarily institutional investors, along with family offices, and high net worth investors. We are familiar with serving and understanding the needs of institutional investors such as endowments, foundations, corporate pension plans, public pension plans, and multi-employer plans.
